Apple & Pear with Cinnamon

6 months
Makes 4 portions
Cooking time: 6-8 minutes
Suitable for freezing

Apple and pear puree is an ideal first food, being easy to digest and unlikely to cause allergies. Choose sweet apples like Golden Delicious or Royal Gala. Some varieties, such as Granny Smith, may have too tart a flavor for your baby.

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
2 medium pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice or water
Generous pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)

Put the fruit in a saucepan together with the apple juice or water and cinnamon (if using), cover, and cook over low heat for 6 minutes or until tender. Blend the fruit to a smooth puree.

Top Tip: You can make your own combinations by freezing individual fruits or vegetables, then defrost and mix them together. Fruit and vegetable combinations like Carrot and Apple or Sweet Potato and Pear work well.
